Unboxing

First, the unboxing!

This part was pretty easy, although I have to warn you: there’s a lot of foam in the box. But that’s okay because that means its contents were well-packed. And sure enough, as I pulled each piece out of its foam casing, they were all intact and free from damage.

All the lightweight pieces were packed in foam on the top of the box. The table itself was stored on the bottom, which makes sense since it’s the heaviest component. Nothing was missing.

In the end, the process of unboxing was a piece of cake. Just be prepared to discard a lot of extra packing material.

Assembly

Now for assembly. In total, this step took me about 15 minutes, which isn’t bad, in my opinion. The instructions weren’t complicated. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised to see that on the stand, each joint was numbered, which made it extremely easy for me to figure out which joints to screw together.

Once the stand was put together, attaching the table to the top was a simple matter of inserting four bolts and tightening them with an Allen wrench. After the top is secured, all that’s left is to attach the anti-kickback mechanism and the saw guard. Both components slide easily into place and lock, so they stay nice and snug until you’re ready to take them off again. When you take them off, there are two slots underneath the table where you can store them out of the way.

For tools, you only need a basic tool kit. I mainly used a half-inch socket with Allen wrench attachments.

Features

Before I give you my final review of the Ridgid 10” R4514 table saw, I want to cover some of the features that this tool comes with.

  • The fence is simple to unlock, and it also slides back and forth smoothly.

  • Underneath the fence is a ruler. You can line the fence up with the ruler to mark the width you want to cut.

  • You can easily adjust the bevel of the saw blade using a dial on the front of the table. Once you’ve adjusted it to the bevel you want, locking it into place is as simple as pressing a lever.

  • The same lever that changes the bevel also comes with a crank you can use to raise or lower the blade, so it can cut through whatever you’re sawing.

  • In another slot on the table is a push stick. You can use this tool to push the material you’re cutting across the table, thus protecting your hands from getting too close to the blade. Once you’re done with it, all you have to do is slide it back into its compartment. Now you’ll never lose it!

  • Another tool that attaches underneath the table is a miter gauge. This tool is designed to slide into a groove on top of the table, so that you can use it to cut a piece of material at an angle.

  • The table also comes with a dust port, which you can attach a vacuum to and suck up any shavings or debris from your cuts.

  • The entire table is collapsible. This feature allows you to take it to just about any work site.

  • The tabletop can extend out to pretty much whatever width you need. All you have to do to activate this feature is unlock a couple of levers.

What’s even cooler is that as you extend the table, the tape measure rolls with it. That’s something I’ve never seen in a table saw before!

Review

Now that I’ve shared all the features of this Ridgid table saw, it’s time to give you my honest review.

I appreciate all the features this tool has to offer (especially the hand crank for raising and lowering the saw blade), but I also like the way it feels. The metal that the table is made out of is strong and sturdy, so it will likely hold up to a lot of uses.

Another thing I enjoy about using the Ridgid table saw is how quickly it shuts down when you press the red “stop” button. When I’m finished using a table saw, I want it to shut down fast, so that I can move on to the next phase of my project. Plus, it’s safer and prevents me or my material from getting cut accidentally.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t give you my thoughts on R4514’s portability since that’s one of its most significant features. It was quite simple to collapse the table saw stand and then lift it back up again. The stand comes with two wheels, as well, so I can easily drag it where it needs to go without carrying it.

And finally, the table saw is great at its primary function, which is cutting material. It sliced smoothly through a small wood 2 by 4; I met no resistance and had no trouble getting an even cut with it.

All in all, the Ridgid 10” R4514 Pro Jobsite Table Saw with Stand is Excellent Laborer-approved and well worth the $599 price tag. I really don’t think you could find a better one for the same price.
